Possibly, but what Gestapo member would be awarded Close Combat? No Gestapo would be in bareknuckle brawls would they. Besides, i'm not too sure he's even wearing a Gestapo uniform, looks like 1932 SS to me. However, your point about Goebbels interests me. A lot of people brag a bit, and maybe Von Hapen does, because he's ten times sinister than he probably would be (unless you count all nazis as bastards, which i do). Still, you have a valid point,, but i stick to mine.

Interesting point. Would it be possible that he would have been awarded them for political reasons, since they established earlier in the film that he had a lot of friends in higher places? I know it was common for a lot of high-ranking German officers or officers with friends in high places to lie or brag about things they had never done (Goebbels, for example, claimed to have a stubbed foot from a WWI wound, even though he never fought in it).

inconsistency concerning von Hapen is regarding the medals he wears on his uniform. These include the German Cross, the Iron Cross, and the Close Combat Clasp in gold. All these awards are front-line military decorations that a uniformed-Gestapo agent assigned to homeland duties in Bavaria could not earn.
