um sorry violin is so much harder to learn to play then a piano, press a key on the piano, you get the note, its very precise, violin is completely different you have to memorise positions and if you're even a tiny bit off the piece is ruined.

on the other hand, how hard is it to press a little black or white button? every instrument is easier said than done. every instrument has its difficulties and its ease. on a violin or cello, if your finger isn't placed perfectly, your note will be sharp or flat. one hand has to push down each string right, while the other has to cary the rhythm plus make sure on the right string(s). The piano, i'm sure is very difficult too.

I don't like the interpretation of this recording much. It feels like nothing more than just notes. This is my piece now, by the way. And I play both the violin and the piano, and while they are both difficult instruments, I'd have to agree that violin is much harder...

I play both cello and piano and quite frankly i have to spend much more time getting a cello piece to sound just right than i have to on one for piano. If you'd ever attempted to play a Haydn concerto on cello you'd find it a hell of alot harder than any piano piece you've ever tried. same goes for the Sibelius concerto or Mendelssohn concerto for violinists.

I'm sorry, but you are terribly misinformed. Playing stringed instraments is entirely more difficult. You have half and whole steps, as well as shifting to the higher notes...And once you're in 4-8 position, it just gets harder from there. Intonation is stressed more there, than anywhere else on the violin. And not only that, your right hand has to keep up with what your left is doing. I played piano when I was younger and felt bored of it, so I picked up the violin.

Great discussion on the violin versus other instruments. I play the mandolin, the plucked version of the violin and piano. Since I already knew the fingering, I tried to learn violin. Wow! Although I played the notes and pitches correctly, I could not get the bow thing. Foreign! And, after just one stroke of the bow, my cats learned that when I picked up the violin to practice, it was time to disappear. They both ran for cover under the bed as far from the horrifying sound as they could get! :)

piano is easer to learn the baics because all of the notes are layed out, and is thus very linear whereas the guitar, violin etc. are harder to learn the basics because of their overlaping notes and hitting piano keys is more natural than pressing down strings (but stringed instruments tend to be easier to pick up, if you forgot your spinach) I personaly prefer stringed instruments because i have devoted more time to them, but to each his own.

No genius is perfect and without flaws. Diamonds have flaws as well. I own no precious stones but I do own a lot of Mr. Zevon's music and for me, that's even better. It's probably a good thing I didn't know it when he was living in Philadelphia because I lived about an hour away and I know I would have tried to track him down and been an unintentional pain in his ass.
