The first part: Those who are dead are not dead they're just living in my head, can mean that he still thinks about dead friends a lot. Falling for the spell, he lives in the past or possibly feeling suicidal, then when the music starts it has sortof a sinister tone like 2:20 but then "You thought you might be a ghost" might be a near death experience. This movie has three elements happening in the summer of 42, carefree adolescents summer vacation, a young loving couple enjoying life, and unseen by the viewer, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, which takes her husband away, and its so moving because we all lost something during that day. The day that will live in infamy, the loss of innocense of the teen and the country and thrusting us into WWII.
