What is the pH value of a 10exp-8 M aqueous HCl solution? ;-)

He should have derived the ion product of water via the general equilibrium constant K and then proving that c(H2O) = 1000 g / 18 g*mol-1 = 55.6 mol/l >> c(H3O+) or c(OH-). Thus in diluted solutions the concentration of water remains constant. Then you could say tha Kw = K(look up in tables)*55.6 mol/l = 10-14 mol2/l2.

NaCl(aq.) is nonsense! The proton and the hydroxyl react to water but the sodium chloride remains in solution.
