Dir sir, The siphon is designed to brew single specialty coffee, like Kona, Blue Mountain, sumantra Mandehling, etc.. Use the siphon brew espresso beans might taste pretty bad. And we suggest you to use hot water instead of cold water. It might be more quickly and efficiently.

Dear Sir, I'm afraid the you used the wrong coffee bean. The siphon is designed to use speciality coffee beans, like Kona, Blue Mountain, Sumantra, etc.. Espresso mixed beans will taste pretty bad with the siphon. and we suggest you try to use hot water instead of clod water.

I've got one and it's really cool to watch it work. The problem is, I can't get the coffee to taste good or even acceptable. I've used 2 of the measuring spoons of espresso - way too weak, 4 spoons still doesn't taste good. It's a shame because I love the way the darned thing works. Still, it will look great on my buffet and is definitely a perfect water boiler for when the lights go out. it boils the water in 10 minutes using alcohol burner.

BTW, I didn't re-edit this to perfection! I'm in a dadaism kinda mood, suckerz! But this is organic shade grown mexico, and if you're able to hear me, then you can hear my describe brewing this starbucks coffee through three brew methods: drip, french press, and espresso.......... my hair looks pretty lame in this too. sorry if you can't hear me talk... but i think its funny.

It would be safer for the lower bowl if you reduced the flame after the water rose so that there is no risk of the flame touching the glass above the water line and cracking it. As for the comment about the coffee looking weak; it's not weak it is just very clear and the glass decanter and cup let the light shine through it. Why would you move it to a cold burner on a gas stove? The coffee returns soon after the flame has been shut off. Great demo video. Thanks

The 4mins of the brewing started when the steam passes through and saturates the ground coffee with 95C water. Ideally, the machine should be kept over the fire throughout the brewing, the heat was required to force all the water up into the brewing pot to create a full vacuum thus when the water was sucked back down, the downward pressure will hold the filter down tightly to prevent loose grounds.

If you're careful, you can let it boil a little longer, as long as there's water in the bottom. If your coffee needs four minutes, this one might not work for you though. My coffee doesn't need four, I think. I don't know what you do with the spring, but it should be fine as long as you don't overflex it, keeping away the _coarse_ ground coffee. Powder like you put into filter machines won't work here.

I have one of these and they're fun to watch but the result is not good. The main problem is that the coffee doesn't steep long enough (need 4 minutes). And the second big problem is the plastic filter used. It's held in place with a loose metal spring and loses strength over time. Result: lots of grounds with your weak coffee.

Muss ja auch nicht sein, dass die "Location" was bedeutet. :) Ja, letzteres ist das, was ich meinte. Genausowenig sollte man aber auch eine Kanne voll mit kaltem Wasser auf die Platte stellen, wenn die schon heiß ist. Und natürlich Vorsicht beim Spülen. Und und und.. Nichts für Speedfreaks oder Grobmotoriker. ;-) Wie sieht's aus, bekommst du auch eine?

Ach, "Location: Germany", und ich Depp schreib alles auf Englisch.^^ "Explode" war das falsche Wort. Bei dem anderen Video, wo so eine Kanne kaputt gegangen ist, las ich, dass es am Temperaturunterschied lag. Vielleicht hatte das Glas auch schon eine Art Haarriss, oder sowas. Der Punkt ist warscheinlich, dass man dabei bleiben und die Kanne von der Platte nehmen muss, wenn unten nix mehr drin ist.

No, actually not. What will probably happen if the pressure gets too high is that the top container pops out of the other, but I don't think it'll explode. I've heard stories about the lower container breaking though. If you leave it on the heat too long, all water will vaporize and the glass will get too hot and crack. But who knows, maybe it _will_ explode one day. Let's hope it doesn't.
