Nespresso is better than keurig. The machine is more reliable and I can make better lattes and coffee without worrying if the machine would turn off by itself or if the pump not working after a month.

they need to make a 1500W version of the B30 Mini. The mini has a superior design to their larger ones. The footprint of the mini is much more reasonable and it is the most stylish in the family. It is the most simple to use and loads just enough water for one cup so I do not have to fill that big annoying reservoir. The only problem with the Mini is that it is only 700W and takes 2-3 minutes to make a cup of coffee. but it takes at least twice as long to make a cup of coffee.

We have one of these things at work. Not only is it very noisy, it makes terrible coffee. The bitterness in coffee is caused by heat during the brewing process, as any drinker of cappuccino or espresso can tell you. If you want some good coffee, make cold-brew coffee concentrate from freshly ground beans, prefferably recently roasted. Add the concentrate to a cup of hot water for hot coffee, cold water, or ice for a nice iced cappuccino without a trace of bitterness.

The top part is not hot at all to the touch as the hot coffee only brews for a minute or so and the top is insulated from the bottom with the rubber gasket so it does not get hot when the water heats up. It's a trip and we use one every day and even gave one to the doctor that did wife's knee replacement last year.

I remember that my grandmother had a pyrex (or corning?) glass percolator coffee pot and that made really great coffee. (She also used the old trick of putting egg shells in the coffee grinds. She said it took away the bitter flavor). I want to get rid of my drip machine and get back to the basics of making real, good, flavorful coffee! Thanks again!

@1ecuadoriana Hi, You are correct that Pyrex does not make them anymore. In fact, the only vacuum pot we know of currently being manufactured is by Bodum. The best spot to find a filter rod is on eBay. I just found a listing for 3 of them....search Cory Coffee Pot Filter on eBay and you should be able to find one. I doubt the formaldehyde is in sufficient quantities to cause any trouble. If it were, don't you think more coffee drinkers would have cancer? A bleached filter has less "papery" flavor than an unbleached filter, and is therefore superior.

Yeah, I look back on these early videos and realize I did quite a few things wrong. I have much better technique now, as well as better equipment (burr grinder FTW!), and I roast my own beans. This is great advice though and thank you for posting this, it will help others down the road.

This is poor technique. That's way too much water for a bloom; there should be practically no water dripping through. You must avoid pouring around the sides of the filter and never disturb the bed of coffee. You should also pour much more deliberately and slowly, making an effort in between to maintain a 195°-200°f temperature ?a thermometer is your friend. To each his or her own, but if you'd truly like to get everything you can out of this method take more care than this.

Your brewing temp is dropping below the ideal while you're waiting between pours. This could encourage bitter or "dirty" tasting coffee. Also, you're getting DIOXIN and FORMALDEHYDE dissolutes through that bleached paper filter. At least use an unbleached filter, or better yet, use a french press or vacuum pot. You'll have a more uniform brewing temps, and you'll brew your java more efficiently with better flavor preservation.

Hey @BrickSh0t7 that is a great vid and quite informative and detailed loved it. One thing that I noticed and thing you actually mentioned it, for this type of coffee method I would like my coffee ground a little bit more fine (just a wee bit) than what you had. And a suggestion if you would like to move up the geek level you should try the "vaccum pot" that is really geeky :-). Thank you for the video.

Chad you need to place a wire grid between the bottom of your Pyrex percolator and the Calrod burner on your stove. If you do not it will eventually cause your Pyrex percolator to break. You can make one out of a wire coat hanger.You only need to do this on an electric stove with a coil burner...a smooth top electric or a gas r stove do not require this.....other than that I think your video is awesome

Percolated, drip, I don't care. As long as it isn't instant, it's good. I had some Folgers Crystals and it tastes like crap. Either way, I love vintage, and retro media is timeless. It was a much simpler time. And the taste of brewing it yourself (I use Folgers, but I have had Cafe du Monde and it's great) is better than buying it, because you made it yourself. I would rather have a coffee pot in my kitchen over a Starbucks any day.

Seriously, stick with drip. Like all of us old farts, I was raised on percolated coffee. It was always a bit hit or miss. Also, it's strong partly due to the cup measurements on the pot being way off. It's the same now with coffee pots. I think they do it on purpose to get us to use more coffee. LOL If you like it strong, go with straight espresso or a french press. French press is gooood.

One thing. you should first pour the water in 2) place stem with coffee basket in pot 3) measure coffee 4)THEN you turn burner on. Let water come to a boil then reduce heat to where it perks without boiling over 1min/cup

Thankies so much for posting this. :) I have been trying to work out how to use my pyrex perculator for ages!!Um one thing though pyrex in the 70's was designed for gas stoves.. To use on the coil stoves etc (electric) there was a little heat spreader to use.. I dont know if you can still get them though... Mum gave me manuals on using pyrex that said this :) Once again Thankyou!

@CaptAviator I don't care if you're family has worked in the coffee industry lol. It doesn't put any moisture or dew. There's only moisture if you take it out of the freezer and leave it out to thaw, if you take it out quickly just to put the coffee in, it's fine. I bought a giant container of coffee at the beginning of this year, and it's in the freezer and it's STILL fresh smelling and tasting. "Air tight containers" are bs, they don't do anything for taste.

@CaptAviator Okay, but if you don't have an airtight case and you have regular old coffee like folgers, letting it sit out makes it taste gross. Whenever I let it sit out, I always end up throwing it out because after a month when I make it it tastes terrible and weak. When I keep it in the freezer, it smells fresh and doesn't loose any of the flavor as when I bought it. After years, that's what I've learned. And the freezer keeps foods from spoiling and staying fresh longer. Hence their purpose

Man! looks good. I'm a med student and I want so badly to enjoy coffee but for some reason I can't stand the taste. Some people suggested drinking it without sugar to enjoy the flavours, other told me i should add lots of sugar if i don't like the coffee flavor I'll get one of these and give it a try. @SeattleCoffeeGear The container you store your concentrated coffee would be good if it could connect to the opening of the larger container with some threads on the inside of the top, that way you only needed to flip the whole thing over again like you did with the coffee and dont get any spilled coffee on the workbench. Does it really stay fresh for 2 weeks? I wonder how it tastes after that first week or the second week in comparison to just after it was taken out. Seems like a cheap way to get some really good coffee for iced drinks, which is awesome for me (since I just had to repair my espresso machine). Great video by the way!
