Actually, Conan's ratings tanked because of his poor lead-in (*cough*Leno*cough*). The whole reason why NBC was so anxious to get Leno out of that 10PM timeslot was because he was tanking the ratings of the local news, and the affiliates were complaining. If Leno makes you turn off NBC at 10PM, fewer people are going to switch back 90 minutes later than would have simply stayed on the channel out of habit.
